i noticed that some online lfs/online stores say a certain invert is reef safe just to find out that its not, so let me ask the experts.

what are the marine inverts in your tank?

also include a (+) sign if you recomend or (-) sign if you had a bad experience with it.

thanks.

Arrow Crab-=Tried to eat anything alive or any corals
Saron Shrimp-=You know why
Anemone Porcelain Crab-=Stole anemones from my clowns which is expected but also hosted small corals and caused them not to open.

The peppermint is marked minus so much because as soon as I get a new coral or anything new, it goes up to it immediately and tries to eat as much as it can! I just got my first coco worm, I put it down and he came up to it and tried tearing away at it! even when it ducked into its tube. It has also done ALOT of damage to my 8 head $99 frogspawn. I hate it, but I can't get it out.

I am actually in the process of killing it since I hate it so much and I can't catch it. And it is fed like a spoiled brat and thats how it treats me!? Is it illegal to kill a peppermint shrimp on purpose? I'll make good use of its body as cbs food.

wow interesting post guys .

tennyson, im sorry for your bad pep shrimp. good thing you posted, at lease other reefer are warned. most of the time pep shrimp is sold as reef safe, to make it worst, its a pain to take them out to our tank.

thanks ncwaterboy and jaynel78!

other reefers please post your experiences too and help others.

If I am not mistaken Peppermints are completely reef safe. There is a shrimp that looks almost exactly the same called a camel back shrimp that is not reef safe. You have to look at it from the side, and see if it has a "camel" hump

Tikidan, I am certain my peppermint is a peppermint, not a camelback shrimp. But I think mines just a bad one. But I have heard of another incident in the LPS Coral forum that somebody elses peppermint was eating his frogspawn, just like mine. And another where I think a pepp was blamed for the missing chunks of all his LPS.

I don't know, I guess it varies from each peppermint.

Jeez.

I've had several kinds of shrimp since I set up my tank last August. Someone in there kills them. I had 1 coral banded, 4 sexy shrimp, 2 pepermints, 1 fire shrimp, and they're all gone. The only one that lasted a long time, was the first sexy shrimp, but a few weeks after I added the others, they all disappeared. I wonder who in my tank has a taste for shrimp. I only have 4 little, well fed fish. 1 Banggai Cardinal, 1 Yellow Clown Goby, 1 Molly Miller Blenny, and one Hector's Goby. Beats me who's the culprit, but I've basically given up on shrimp, which saddens me because I really like them.

I know I already posted on this, but I am now changing my plus for the coral banded shrimp to a minus.

I just got a beautiful fire shrimp, acclimated it, and the first couple minutes after introduction, they are stressed out and stand still. Well my coral banded shrimp came over and picked it up and was eating it!!!! So they are reef safe, but I wouldn't consider them safe with dying fish, or stressed inverts new to the tank.

thanks tayler and Kadet MKultra for the inputs.
and Tennyson for the update

ok, on sunday ( and every sunday, if the turnout of our mini- survey is good) ill try to tally the results of your inputs and mybe come up with top 5 for each category.

also the list of everyone that shared their valuable experience.

i would like to make it clear that this progect is just to make a trending of which invert is more likely to become good tank inhabitant and which is not (so its really subjective).

also, i would consider all the inverts are properlly IDed by the owner.

we might not get the 100% truth but at lease well get an birdseye view of the complicated inverts world :)
