So I did my very first batch of DIY Frozen Fish Food. It was definitely a learning process. And took way longer then expected....but here it goes.

Ingredients:
1 bag of Bay Scallops
1 bag of Squid Rings (bad idea to put these in whole)
1 bag of raw pacific shrimp (deshell before you put them in with the rest.)
4 cod filets
6 small salmon filets
Bag of mysis shrimp
20 cubes of calanus
NLS Pellets (1/2 cup)
Seachem Marine Flakes (1/2 cup)
Freeze dried brine shrimp cubes (about 10-15)

Rinsed all my meat thoroughly.

Placed in blender. Added Pellets, flakes, mysis/calanus mix, and brine shrimp.
Stirred. Then gave er' heck with the blender...

This is what came out.

I took this and Rinsed the heck out of it in a strainer over a bucket. Put all the big chunks in another bucket to be processed again.

I then strained the liquid that was in the bucket through a fine netted fish net. And got as much moisture out as possible. I repeated this process over and over until I was left with minimal big chunks as I am feeding juveniles.

This is what came out of the net

And final result is this.

2 bags of "bigger chunk" feed
2 bags of finely chopped feed
And a cookie sheet of squares of finely chopped.

Should last me a year at least!

Thanks for reading. Please let me know anything I should add to my next batch...or anything I should do differently. Remember my fish are about 1inch so I need the finely chopped stuff.
And I am hoping to use this method for my Juvies if these 2 breed.

Or if you have a different recipe and would like to share feel free! I'll post a video at feeding time...they seem to love it!

Happy Reefing!

Variety is the most important just out as many different Wild caught varieties into the mix along with things like mysis krill and some coral foods like oyster eggs or cyclops copepods. Lastly enrich the food with some selcon and you're good to go

This was mine that i made last night

Nice I like the blood worms and oyster eggs idea!! We can't find Cyclops here anymore :(...I think I should have added plankton of sorts looking back! Thanks for sharing

The blood worms were from my tropical tank, but since shutting it down 6 months ago the worms were at the back of the freezer. I did a quick test to see if the marine fish would eat them which yielded positive results, so added them to the final mix. I blended the fine things together then stirred in the defrosted (and rinsed) whole foods like mysis, brine shrimp and worms.

Also dont worry so much about the cyclops as i see you used calunus cubes so should be ok. . I used dried calanus flakes and mysis rs flakes in my auto feeder which i feed once a day as well.

Lmao!!! Yeah...I did this in my garage. The smell was horrid. smelt like the ocean puked in my garage..and not the good parts..lingered for a day....gone now though...my wife is very understanding....never very enthusiastic but understanding none the less! I gagged a couple times after the blender from the smell but you get used to it after the first hours or so lol....
