Little blue dots

Tiny blue dots have started to suddenly appear on the dry rock in my tank. They aren't super numerous (yet) and there is nothing else on the rock yet. They are not big, these dots, and maybe appear blue only because the blue lights are on. Some look a little bit raised, and some don't. I doubt I could get a good picture with my camera.

Anyone have any idea what they might be?

It's tough to say without a picture...

I noticed some tiny blue dots in my tank once and I was like "what the... " but I quickly noticed it was from a deteriorating blue algae scrubbing pad. It was kind of funny.

I have greenish/blue dots starting on my dry rock as well. I'm pretty sure it's coralline since some turn pink. I think it's the first stage of it. Also I do think it only takes a little bit of coralline to start it going in your tank, so yes it could be from the hermit shell.

That's pretty cool - I'm really hoping that's what it is!

Here are a couple pictures. The best I could do:

Any one else experience this? With the white lights on, the color looked a little more brown, so maybe it was coralline flourescing...?

Could be sponges too :)

True, didn't think of that! However, the only life I have had in this tank since the setup (all dry rock and sand) has been 12 hermits and 1 fish (RIP). Only one hermit had a little bit of live coralline on its shell.

I did, however, add a piece of live rock loaded with everything under the sun to the sump, but that was yesterday evening! :)

Just a little update...

The spots are much more numerous now, and they do grow very slowly. They are, however, still blue.

I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't some kind of bacteria. Around one, and only around one of maybe 100-200, there is a larger faint patch of the same color.
