little chromis got sucked up into the powerhead?

Is this a common problem?

I bought 8 tiny chromis for my 40 gallon tank. i liked the way they schooled together. anyways, the next morning, i only have 2 chromis. I only have a leopard wrasse in there (small mouth), and a orange clown. So I don't think they were eaten.

Later on, i saw a body fly out of my mp20. i have two mp20's in my cube tank (one on each side). So i'm guessing these missing 6 chromis were sucked in and killed. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

If the chromis, or any fish, is healthy, it will not get sucked in to a powerhead. It may be in your overflow if they are small enough to fit between the overflow teeth.

Yes, I checked the overflow. And there wasn't any fish in there. I even checked my sump, in case they got in the overflow and then down the piping. Nothing.

These chromis are pretty small though. That's why I am scared that the powerhead got them.

I think they just die easily. I got 6, then ended up with 1, then got another 6 and now have 2 left. I did find and scooped out every one that died. In hindsight, I probably should not have gotten any.

Chromis in groups very often kill each other off until you have only one or two. They may have been forced to jump, or may be buried in the rockwork somewhere.

i guess my real question is .... is it common that fish go thru vortech powerheads easily? I haven't really heard much about fish getting killed easily in powerheads. but maybe something i should start considering and not buy small fish.
