Little help trouble shooting?

Hey Roger, Ive got a pair of 6105's with a 7096 controller. Im setting them up for the first time (I bought them used) and I cant seem to get one pump to operate. Ive got them plugged into ports 1 and 2, and have switched them around and still cant get one to run. What steps would you recommend to trouble shoot and get the other one up and running? Help is certainly appreciated.

Got the pump working, took it apart and spun the prop and it kicked on and tore my thumb up, I unplugged it from the controller but not the power supply like an idiot...

Now they are running, a little loud for my taste, I've never had a tunze this large before, is this just a louder pump? Or can I expect them to quiet down some?

Any suggestions on a good quiet setup? I'm have them in an X pattern on a 250 gallon deep dimension.

I would verify that the drive magnets are clean and not sticking to the shaft, that would cause the start up issue and more noise. The magnet spins on the shaft, they can fuse so the magnet drags the shaft and that makes a lot of noise and can burn out the motor or power supply. Do you know about how old they are? In late 2011 a design change greatly reduced the noise from about 62 db at full power to 52 db, this change cannot be retrofitted, older pumps will be noisier. Some noise may be due to worn parts or just calcium build up.

Thank you Roger, I will look into the condition of the props and see.

Im not sure how old the pumps are, but they were in incredible condition, Is there a date somewhere or something that specifies when they were manufactured?

If the prop has a removable shaft with blue bushings on either end and it spans from the back to the front cover, it is pre Nov 2011. If it has a short shaft that is not removable and has no blue bushings, that is the current version. In general the motors will have a date code stamped on the side of the hexagonal plastic motor body in month/year format. Their are some exceptions, the first fixed shaft models from late 2011 often have no date code and the very first pumps from 2008 have no date code. More rare is a double date code which usually means a motor that was built and stored and the dated again when it was assembled into a pump, but these are very rare and almost not worth mention.

The prop is removable, it has a (what appears to be) titanium shaft, a little blue T bushing on each end of the shaft, and a single round blue bushing under the magnet side with a small black ring attached.

The magnet/prop does spin on the shaft freely, but you can feel a very slight drag as it rotates around the shaft, is there something you can recommend to lube it with just to let it work it in some. any other recommendations to make? also, can you pm me a price on a pair of prop assemblies just incase nothing else works?

I would not use any lube, water is the lube. I would remove the shaft from the magnet and soak all pieces in 50/50 vinegar and water to dissolve any calcium which may be causing the drag. Do make sure the black plastic piece in the blue ring is facing the magnet, the slotted side of it should face the magnet. The part can be ordered here-

Thank you again!

Just to follow up, it is the props causing the noise. I pulled them both, soaked them, the soaking didnt help, but as I put them back together, I swapped the shafts and impellars back and forth trying different directions and I found a combo that the prop spun very very smoothly on the shaft, so I put that in one pump and its super quiet now. So Ill order another to replace the other side.

Thanks for the ideas and help Roger!
