i just bought 5 live littlenecks at the store today. i heard they can be beneficial to a saltwater tank. is this true? i havent put them in my tank yet so if they arent good for the tank i just wont put them in.

They are filter feeders, but I don't think they do any more good than a similarly sized Tridacna clam.

i put them in today and they are in the sand. will they borough or not? also, will they just open up if they die?

i agree with green bean i tried muscles only one survived out of a dozen in a matter of a week food is their only benefit that i see

I think those clams are from colder waters, so they will not last long in 80 degree reef tanks. Plus, you don't know what they have been treated with on their way to the store, etc. I think the potential negatives outway the filter feeding benefits.

I had a few of those in my fuge for months, and after I got my Urchins they got to them and killed them....

What ?

What ?

Where do you come up with this stuff ? Just MAKE it up as you go along ? If you do not know something for sure do NOT talk about only leading to false information. Unless you have FACTUAL information...... ....................... well you know the rest.

What would make you think that the clams are being treated ???? Did you not THINK before writing that they are for HUMAN CONSUMPTION ? Boiled, used for pasta thus PASTA CLAMS ?

Think man first if you do not know then dont..........................

mrdss, that's pretty worked up over a post that's 8 years old and daudelus hasn't been on RC since 2011. I'm not sure he is going to hear you scolding him... :fun4:
