Live phyto to give away!!

Hey everyone.

I'm currently culturing nanochloropsis and tetraselmis. I have way more than what I can use and I'd be happy to give some away if anyone is intersted.

Nanochloropsis is a very easily cultured phyto which is very good for clams, scallops, tunicates and such. I was told that pods cannot feed on nano but I don't know that for sure. Nano has one of the highest HUFA and DHA levels of all cultutured phytoplankton.

Tetraselmis is more difficult to culture and has lower levels of HUFA and DHA, however it contains two proteins which have been know to exhibit antibiotic like properties. This is a phyto that pods feed on and the thought is that if the pods eat the tet then the nutrients and antibiotic like properties will then carry over to the animals that feed on the pods. From what I've read this is still theory and has yet to be proven but is a widely accepted concept.

In the near future I'll also be starting a culture of isochrysis which is another type of phyto that is ideal for pods.

What I'm culturing is very similar to DT's live phyto but less concentrated. I don't have the thousands of dollars to spend on equipment to concentrate it and remove the extra water. A gallon jug of phyto can last in the fridge for at least 3-4 months if you shake it up every few days. For those seriously interested I'll give specific dosing instructions.

If your interested in some phyto that is already cultured and ready to feed or if your interested in a smaller starter dose to get your own culture going just let me know. I can ship it (at your cost) or your more than welcome to stop by to see my tank (180 gallon reef and 420 gal build in progress), pick through the frag rack (pretty slim right now since I've been busy putting together the 420), and pick up some phyto.

Just an FYI I'm not in the fox valley area and live about 10 miles east of
Wausau.

I'm interested but won't be out that way I din't think. Are you going to come to Eric's for the Nov. meet?

I recently got all the goodies for finishing my 420 build so I won't have a chance to make it to Eric's meet. My time has been entirely dedicated to the new baby and the build and will be for the next few months. Things should really settle down after the first of the year and I'll have a chance to get to some meets after that. I'll always have plenty of phyto to give away, just remind me in the future.

I will be interested in some, but there is no hurry. I will get some when i get the skimmer.

Sounds great. It's the very least I can do for you for letting me use this skimmer body for so long. Trust me, I wish I could have gotten my rock, set up the tank, and given you the skimmer back several months ago. LOL!!
