Live Rock Amount?

How many pounds of the Marshall Islands Live Rock does it take to stock a 20gal Aquarium? Just wondering, thinking about a new set up, thanks.

Hi,

A lot of it will depend on how you want to aquascape your tank. I agree with FishFreak though, 20 - 25lbs would be a very good starting point.

OK, so for a 20g tank I would want smaller pieces, maybe even nano size rock? About how many pieces of MI rock would I get from 20-22 pounds?

To be honest I have no clue just because of the variance in the rock. I can tell you that volume wise it would take up about 16" x 12" x 12" roughly. Maybe in the 10-15 piece range if it is all nano. Keep in mind you will want a few medium pieces to build off of, so maybe 8lbs of regular Marshall and the rest nano rock.
