Live Rock-Dead Rock?

How long does it take for "Dead Rock"(dried out live rock) to become "Live Rock" again. I had to try it out do to my house being built and having nowhere to store it. I plan to seed the tank with a couple of pieces of live rock, and was just curious how long it takes for the dead to become live again?

I should call all my dead rock "Frankenrock" ouuwwaaaa

You will need to cure it before using it agian. Once cured and ready for use, I'd seed it with some other live rock and live sand. Otherwise you'll probably only get bacterias and algeas. The seeding will help re-establish your other detrious and filter feeding crittters; like pods, sponges dusters etc.

In general terms I'd consider it live rock when it's covered in coraline, sponges, dusters etc. This usually takes about 6 months.

From talking with rock farmers in Florida, they usually wait for 18-24 months before they sell what was base rock as live rock.

Reallity is, once you get it in the tank and through a cycle it's has life (even before as it's never truely 100% dead).

I started my system with a combo of lace lava and live rock. In about 6 months you couldn't tell the difference as both were covered in coraline, sponges, dusters etc.

I've started a system with all base rock and didn't cure it well.. I paid for it. I am back to reefing, and am curing my rock this time around, but TBH I'm curing for about a month or so then placing it in the tank... though I find it beneficial to wait as long as you can it is my own belief that the rock will be fairly ready (Not 100%...) in about a month or so.

We'll see I guess :)
