Live Rock Expectations??? Too High or Misunderstanding?

I received my Live Rock (45 lbs Premium Select Fiji) order yesterday and followed the instructions for rinsing and putting it in my tank. I am not sure if I was expecting too much, but the live rock didn't look like what I was expecting. I was expecting to open the box and see the rocks covered with Purple, Green and Red coralline algae. Half of my rocks looked black and grey with some coralline algae, almost like a combination of the standard and foundation live rock on your website. I am new to the saltwater hobby and was just wondering if I had unrealistic expectations or misunderstood what I would be getting.

kveille,

Thank you for your post. We are sorry to hear that your rock was not received as expected. It is likely that the condition of the rock was affected by dieoff during shipping. After proper curing, the coralline algae and microorganisms will redevelop on the rock over time. If you would please PM us with your order information, we would be happy to further look into this matter for you.

FWIW That rock looks very nice too me!!! Good corraline and shortly it will be covered. Rock always looks rough after shipping and I would be happy with that rock I've seen alot worse.

Thank you for your follow up and help with my live rock. I will follow your suggestions to get the most out of my Live Rock. I am very satisfed with how you handled this issue.

Coraline bleaches out after exposed to air for a couple hours or more, it will all turn white and die off most likely, it will grow back.

I got the live rock for my 58 from LA, and it looked similar to yours, both pictures, and let me tell you after the rock settled in, it looked great. That was just about a year ago and still finding stuff on the rocks.
