Live rock height

I am starting a sps tank only. It is 180gal 24inch tall tank. How high do my live rock need to be to fit most SPS. Would 8 inches below water be to far or to close.

Given you have the right lighting IMO the less rocks the better for sps because they will soon fill that top area. I have my rocks at the half mark in the tank.
