Live rock help

20 years ago I had a reef tank. When I moved I took down the tank and threw all the rock in the woods behind the house.

Now I'm in the process of setting up a new tank. I went out to the old house, found and collected all the rocks. So now I have about 150 lbs of rock that is covered in moss and small plants.

My question is: How do I prepare this rock for use in my new reef tank? It been sitting out in the woods for 20 years and is very dirty and covered in plant growth.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hmm this is an interesting question. I would suggest getting everything off of them and soaking them in bleach for a while. Or something. Personally I'd just get new rock. Can you show some pics? Lol

I have sterilized live rock by soaking it in a bucket, or new 32g garbage can, with concentrated bleach for about a week. Then I spread it out on a drop cloth on the driveway in the sun and rinsed it every day for another week. Gave me a nice clean base rock to start from.
