Live rock in Overflow?

I'm thinking about filling up the overflow segment on my wife's nanocube with live rock rubble. Will the life on the rock be able to survive in the dark? Has anyone done this?

you would essentially be building a cryptic zone, I don't think it would be a bad thing, you would want to make sure to cure the rock accordingly or the die off could mess up the tank

I have a 29g oceanic biocube and i keep liverock in the back, and its doing fine. I think its a good idea, liverock filters, so its good.
