Live Rock needed!!!!

Well fellow reefers I mixed up my first 10gal of saltwater this morning for my new 72 bowfront system. My newly plumbed RO/DI system is putting out 50-75g a day and I'm mixing as I go.

Right now I've got maybe 10-15 lbs of live rock and will be looking for more by the time of our meeting next week. If anyone has any extra their willing to part with $cheap/free$ let me know and I can bring containers and cash. I'll be running the 72 with a 29g sump, so I'll put a little below also.

Right now I've got nothing to frag but then again I'm just starting with this larger tank.

Thanks DJ

I've got almost 30 pounds...mostly big chunks....not really any nice structures. It came from a reef tank i broke down a couple of months ago. It's free of any "aptaisa" and "majones" and fully cured. Lots o0f coraline to.. but it's been in a storage tub w/ heater and powerhead so the color's probably a little faded. how's $75 sound? That's $2.50 a pound.

That should work for me.
My tank will be filled by morning, turn on the pump, heater, and test the lights.....let the cycling begin. Should take long, seeding it with sand from an already established tank at work.

I'll bring a cooler for shipment to the meeting.

Treesmoker is geting me 30# but I could use some more. I can pay for and pick it up tonight at the meeting.
Reply back here if you have any, thanks.

Hey TS the rock is a great start. Looks like you had some good stuff growing on one considering all the cut marks. Two pieces still have a little blue sponge growing, maybe it'll spread.

Since Treesmoker only had 30lbs I'm still looking for another 50 min. I'd like to go thru here before going to the LFS and paying $5-7 a pound. They don't have to be pretty and I'll even take rubble for my sump.

Thanks.

You don't need all the rock to be live. You can save a good chunk of cash by buying dry base rock for the rest. It will become live within a few months. As long as you keep your bioload down by not adding a ton of fish right away, you'll have plenty of biological filtration until the rest is "live"

Caesars have some of the rock but I like All About Fish in Concord/Pleasant Hill. There you can pick through a few hundred pounds and get the exact shapes you want.

You can also get it online at places like http://www.marcorocks.com/default.asp

You can even go to 6th ave and get cured live rock for about $3/pound. They usually have some nice Tonga Branch and shelf rock in stock.

Well my live rock has been in for two weeks, along with all new live sand. So I went to North Bay to get base rock to fill it up and this is what I ended up with for $1.29/lb.

Now just have to put in my order to get fish the end of the month.

Still a little cloudy since I put it in right after the lights went out and didn't let the silt settle before taking the pics. The fuge part of my sump is completely filled with rock and chetto now also. I'm going to give it another two weeks to get settled and let the rocks soak up the water and then it's off to Ocean Treasure's.
