Live Rock question

I have a couple pieces of live rock that I took out of the display and put them in the sump a while back. I did it because they were covered with some undesirable zoa's that had taken it over. The zoanthids are now mostly dissipated and I would like to these pieces back in the display zoanthid free. Here's the theory, will it work? I was wondering if a Fresh water dip would kill what was left of the zoa's making it easier to slice them off with a razor blade if needed while keeping the bacteria alive. Or should I just slice them off or slice off then dip to kill any residual zoa tissue? Could also give them a muratic/RO or vinegar/RO bath and rinse. Options, options, options. To be honest 2 medium/small pieces do not warrant the effort to properly "cook" them. If I needed to do more than 8-10 pcs. yes, I probably would.

I have a couple pieces like that in my sump that had those CR A P P Y ugly grey trash palys on them and I put in my sump. Those rock peices have grown over with so much rooted calurpa but the Paly's still survive. They open up when I trim the calurpa back for a couple weeks until it grows back over covering the palys

All that to say, Ernie, I don't know if anything can kill these kinds of palys lol, I have no plans or need to bring any of that rock in my sump back into the DT but if I did I would be doing a long muratic acid bath and then a fresh cure etc. Just me.

If it were me I would just scrap the rock because those things never die. I had a large piece in my display with ugly palys,which of course spread over to surrounding rocks so before the spread got too bad I just threw the main rock out. I took the other rocks and puttied over the palys which sealed them off and I haven't had a problem since. I would imagine a muriatic acid bath would probably kill them completely as well but unless it was a large amount of rock I wouldn't even bother, and then have to worry about breathing that crap in.

Think I'm just going to put it back on the porch...with the rest of the dock reef. Neatly "scaped" of course.
