Live rock removial???

Ok I know it is illegal to remove live rock from the Florida keys, but how do you take coral without taking the rock?

Do you just frag it on the spot or what?

Thanks and forgive my stupidity.

With the exception of some gorgonians, it's illegal to collect corals in Fl also ;) For those a chisel is used and only a piece of rock less than in inch is allowed to be attached.

check out fwc's website the have a rules and regulations page you must also have a valid saltwater fishing license

Gorgonians are really the only "soft" corals typically found in the Tropical West Atlantic. Anemone's, coralimorphs such as ricordea, and zoos are also collectible with the same restrictions on substrate.

what do you think is in your tank?

Exactly.....

Seems everytime someone asks about collecting here in FL, someone from some other state condems collecting.....at some point whatever is in their tank WAS taken from the wild one way or another. Even tank raised at one time was in the wild, but it is our best alternative now.

BTW, I thought it was global warming that was killing the reefs anyway.

:smokin: Better go diving while the reefs are still here I guess.
