HI guys its me again the guy with more questions than answers.has anyone noticed the price off live rock in southern ontario....yikes..so i was wondering if it would be considered poor form to use some lava rock under the live rock or should i just bite the bullet and put in all live rock.any sugestions or other ideas would help me greatly and i could start sleeping again.p.s. i'll be setting up this weekend woohoo!!!!thanx

I know live rock can be expensive, but it's worth it. Why not just bite the bullet now and get the live rock. The more live rock in your tank the better. Look at it this way, at least you'll only have to buy it once.

Yes you can use lava rock as base rock. Just be sure to use some Live rock as well will help seed your base rock.

It is a good method of reducing costs of Live rock. Give sometime and add supliments and coraline will grow and spread.

You gan get some live rock and some base rock. The base rock is much less expensive and is basicly "dead" live rock but will soon become "live" again when added with live rock.

Lace Rock is a better option...its a "better" quality Lava.... as opposed to Fiji versus Lalo...makes great base rock.......IMO

I would go all live rock it is part of your filter and like every one says you get what you pay for so you might as well do it now and get it over with youll be happy you did.

All live rock is worth it. You can save a bunch of cash by NOT buying that wet/dry thing that a bunch of people have. And go with the live rock and a Protein Skimmer, and all should workout. JD

If you're worried about the price and got time, got 75% base rock and 25% live rock. If you wanna speed up the process simply increase the percentage of live rock.

I plan on starting with full live rock, but I will only be filling a 24g tank at 8.00/lb. I only plan to buy 20lbs.
