live rock vs dry rock question

I know the differences between them. My question is what should my dry rock to live rock ratio be when starting my tank. I was going to order rock from www.reefrock.net. How much should i order and then finish the rest with live rock?

Totally depends on how fast you want to cycle. All you "need" is a way to properly seed the aquarium with beneficial bacteria. This can be live rock, live sand, filter media, ect.

I think the urgency is the key here. When I upgraded my tank from a 28 to 92, my existing liverock would have been 20% with 80% new dry rock. But with the established rock and what I had in there, I did not start adding more fish or feeding more until weeks later so the transition was very smooth as the dry rock cultured into limerick.

The percentage is determined by how much biological filter you need at what time. If you are willing to wait, 90/10 is just fine. Watch the nitrates.
