Live rock weight Limit

In regards to Live Rock is there a weight limit that a standard aquarium can handle before you run a risk of having the bottom glass pane crack? For example I have a 72 bowfront with a tempered bottom and currently somewhere between 80-90 lbs of lr and would like to add up to 30 lbs more to get a good rockscaping. Is this pushing the limit on what a tank can handle?

hey heres a question you said that your bottom was tempered, did you drill the side, have an overflow, or are sumpless. Thanks PS where did you buy your tank?

I dont't think there would be a weight limit cuz if you think of it a gallon of water is about 8 pounds on a 72 gal bowfront you have 576 lbs of just water and as you add rock it displaces water and weight. On the positive side glass is tempered to make glass a little stronger. JMO

thanks for all the responses!

Now i just have to find more LR :-)

Cool, is that the black one he had sand and water in for like 2 weeks? I was eying that set-up but got the 55 instead.
PS Mike is sure the power seller of tanks. lol Thanks!!!

congrats on the new tank, this is a wee bit old but I thought I'd add, I had 1000+lbs total going in on my tank for internal weight, like 800lbs of water after displacement, 200lbs of rock and 400lbs of sand to break it down for ya. hope that helps. just make sure if its a big tank your floor can handle it, I had to turn down a few places because of how large my tank was in the past.

Yeah I can see how that would be an issue, luckily the tanks local is on a tile floor directly on concrete, no weight issues there.

then you'll be fine, don't worry about it, just make sure you have a nice deep sand bed and maybe put some foam underneath it depending on how much rock you'll add to disperse the weight evenly.
