Live Rock

Hello PremiumAquatics,

I just wanted to have a few questions answered about your live rock and inverts.

To make a long story short, I have read constant raving reviews about your incredible live rock you offer. The pet store I work at has terrible reef set ups, and barren, white "live" rock, which is priced at 12.99 a pound. So, I am planning on ordering from you.

You know your rock better then I, so I just wanted to know how much 'Premium Fiji Live Rock' would be needed to attractively aquascape a 10 gallon nano? I do not want a "box of rocks" set up, just mabe 2 or 3 large rocks to create isolated banks for the corals to grow on. I plan on epoxy-ing some corals to the back glass of the aquarium as well.

I apologize for being so cryptic with my description of what I would like my tank to look live rock-wise, so i'll post some pictures of a fellow RCer who has 10 gallons aquascaped very nicely, and, in my opinion, perfectly.

Please note this photo was taken by ChloroPhil and i'm only usuing it as an example of what I think looks good.

I am unsure as to how many pounds of rock this would take, and am also curious if you hand-pick rock for people like me. In the photo, it looks like there are only 2 or 3 large pieces of rock, then a few smaller pieces.

Can I have a price quote on this amount of rock, however many pounds it may be? Please also note that I will be unable to purchase it immediately as I am still saving up for Live Rock. You can check here to see my progress money-wise:

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting a response to you.

For what you are wanting to do I think the Marshall Island rock would be your best choice. It comes with an average amount of life, very nice pastel colors, and hands down the nicest shape of any rock in the hobby. The part that makes it so appealing in your situation is that the smaller size pieces have just as much shape/character to them as what the larger pieces do. When dealing with Tonga (ie...Kaelini, Eva, Uaniva, etc...) or Fiji, this is not the case. The smaller pieces do not have as nice of shape as what the larger ones do. You do get just a little more life with the Tonga rock vs the Marshall, but I personally feel the shapes more than make up for this.

I would say something in the 12-15lb range is what you would need. The Marshall is very porous / light weight, so you won't need too much.

If you can supply me with a shipping zip code I'll be more than happy to get a quote for you to your door.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Your total for 15lbs of Marshall Island cured shipped to your door would come out to $98.85. That is using UPS Ground shipping which is two days. If you choose to use UPS Next Day Air the total would come out to $148.69. If I was in your position I would use the Ground shipping method. YOu will have a small amount more die off, but nothing drastic. This time of year is the perfect shipping weather, so take advantage of it!

Thanks,
Jeremy

Alright then! Consider my order placed! (Once I have the tank set up!)

What are the shapes like on Marshall Island? I think i'll take you up on your offer to take some pics of it.
