I'm looking for some live rocks for my new tank. Saw that ABC reefs carries FHI rocks. Not too sure what are those, anyone care to comment on the rocks?

I use them both in my biocube as well as in my main tank...they are very good porus rocks comes with NOOOO hitchhikers at all! Very rich in calcium too!

They are man made at the fish heads location then somewhat cured as in bacteria cultured .. seems to be clean good stuff...fish heads produce good stuff usually

Good to hear that, I believe thats what they are advertising too (porous and no hitchhikers). At $8/lbs, it is kinda pricey though.

I got about 8 - 10 lbs of the rock in my 65 gallon. I love the stuff. One piece, that the torch is on, is about a foot long with great shape! Very easy to sculpt with. It added immediate color and the base rock is catching up quickly. There is about 80 lbs LR in the tank, just the top pieces are FHI rock. Not the best picture, but you get the idea. Good bang for the buck!

At first I was a little skeptical of this man-made LR from Fish Heads, but upon seeing it in person and watching it being added to an exsisting system, I am very impressed with it. Why?

-100% Pest Free
-Awesome shapes (Shelf, Nano, and rumor has it soon there will be Branch)
-Sold pre-cured, minimal or no cycling
-Environmentally friendly
-Little to no nutrients (i.e. Nitrate/Phosphate)
-Painted with shades of pink/purple, thus eliminating the dreaded wait period for pretty Coraline algae

A friend of mine added a bunch to his exsisting setup and had great results; he is actually in the process of replacing his old LR with this new kind by FHI. All in all, I'm a fan!

Perhaps its just me but I am not crazy about it. I was so excited to see this rock when it came out and got some in. Many of our costumers love it. Personally did not find it all that. I think if they sold it dry I would be much happier. When I get live rock I want to see life in it. Hitchhikers aside these rock have no life, we even joked about swabbing it to check for bacteria. Being "live" this rock has to be air cargo freighted and that adds to the cost. I also was not aware of it being painted until I saw it. All in all its a good product, that I wish was just sold dry, shipped with ground carriers. Since its man made why not put some structures together, balanced complete caves, tables and walls. I will also take it white, no need for paint.
