Live Rocks placment position (pic)

I decided to take out my live rocks and put it in a different way. Right now i have LR in straight line and I figured that in order to give corals enough space to do not touch each other is to place live rocks in stages (see pic). But now i have one problem.

What do I put in a place with question mark? I do not want to stock this unuseful space with live rocks. this is just a waste of live rocks. or is this my best option?

any idea on how to place the liverocks will be appreciate.

Go to a landscaping place and hunt down some big rocks. You will have to research which kinds are safe to use. I think lime stone is safe, but don't quote me on that. You should be able to get more than enough for less than $5.

One guy in my fish club spent $15 dollars to fill his 125 and then just added a few small pieces of LR and some LS.

If you don't like that idea you can build a PVC frame to put your rock on. You would need to drill holes in it to prevent dead zones in the pipes.

i do not like the idea with different rocks, you never know what can they do with your tank.
so I can use whatever i want to fill up this space?

Add more live rock or make a rack out of PVC and Eggcrate

I agree with the pvc or eggcrate as a stand, it will give fish places to hid and swim behind the rock and you could hide some power heads back there for flow. However you still want 1 to 2 pounds of live rock per gallon for bio filtration.

p.s. i have 100lb of live rocks and my tank is 90gal.

it is actually light diffuser material you get at most hardware stores:


They actually make square standoffs for it but you can just use PVC or smaller sections of the material to create a shelf structure

At Menard's (not sure how widespread Menard's is, they might be only in the midwest) they actually have the stuff labelled as "eggcrate". You can try just asking for eggcrate and if the salesperson looks at you funny, explain that it's the light diffusing stuff that is used on flouresent lighting fixtures.

You can sometimes also find it in black, which might be less visible in your tank.

I've never seen black.... but would be awesome

I had some that was silver, and I used it in my frag tank, because I figured it would reflect light better to all of my corals. WRONG. Well, the next day, the silver had "washed" off because (I assume) the combination of saltwater and bright lights. I didn't see any paint, and it didn't seem to harm my frags or anything. Just be wary of colored eggcrate...

The black is actually the plastic. It's black all the way through and not painted on. I have some at the house. Cool stuff, but I've never been able to find it.

I gotta say something cause I know Travis is cool and he can handle a little flaming. How do you have some if you have never been able to find it?

I got some from a friend that got it in TX that got it from his job. That's a mouthful Good question jpslickrocks.
