Live Rocks Question

hello

I`m new to the hobbies and I'm ready to start my cycle... the only thing missing is my live rock.

My favorite store was suppose to receive a huge stock of Sulawesi live rock tomorrow. I just called few minute ago and the command will be delayed for 2 weeks.

I try to call other store in my region and I don't know what to do. One is offering miyki live rock, I never heard about it.

I might be able to find Fiji live rock but I heard that this is not the best live rock never seen.

I need 90 pounds of live rock so this is one of the most expansive thing to buy for me in my setup. Does anyone have some piece of advice for me. Should I buy less quality live rock? Does anybody knows about Miyki live rock??

thanks

Never seen or heard of miyki rock. When buying rock, you want to make sure the rock is cured, and no you don't have to buy all liverock. You could go with 1/2 liverock, 1/2 baserock to save money. Fuji rock is pretty good... I have alot of it and its got good color to it.

ive never heard of either of those types of rocks, i agree with andrew stated, i like tonga and indonesain rock myself though :),
is there a website to check the types of rock you mentioned? you also may need more then 90lbs, i went with 70lbs first (budget) then added 50lbs, i still think i need another 30lbs, but everone has there on prefs goodluck!

i got my tonga from
www.pacificeastaquaculture.com

the indo is from
www.reefscience.com

base you can get from
www.hirocks.com

check out hirocks.com. They sell base rock that is really reasonable and the price includes shipping. You can then put the good LR on top to seed the base. You can also find several receipes for making LR. I just finished making about 1/2 doz. pieces using portland and crushed oyster shells for the base. I am curing it now. It is recommended to cure in tap water for about 6 wks to leach the chemicals so you won't raise your ph and kill off everything.

Be careful with www.hirocks.com. I just got a box that arrived after a couple of weeks for an order of 60lbs of base rock. Sure, it's reasonable. Only problem is that I only got 32 pounds. Yes, I weighed the freakin rock on a scale.

I personally like Dr. Macs. He is a sponsor here and has great quality Rock with many idfferent option on how to get it you. Check out the sponsor forums for shoppers feeedback and give him a call to talk about it. Great and knowlesgable!!

If you really like the live rock that was supposed to come in, I would wait for it. Getting into the habit of practicing patience in this hobby is a good thing, so you may as well start now.

i agree with joe90usa, be patient in this hobby. personnally i have fiji LR and i have no problem with it. they work for me just fine. in you sig it says you have a 90 gallon and so you want 90lbs of LR. thats good i see you did some research but you can go half/half with LR and reg. base rock. the LR will eventually seed the base rock and they will become LR overtime but it doesn't happen overnight. or maybe you can get 70lbs of LR and 20lbs of base rock, but you don't always have to keep it at 90lbs. you can even go for 60-80lbs of LR or you can go over 90lbs. they provide a very good bio filter for your system and its also cosmetics; so it depends on how you want your tank to look like. if not so crowded you will have more space for your fish to roam around and etc. good luck with the start up. :)
