I'm guessing you mean on the back pane of glass, not actually on the backside of the glass. In short, yes it can. Just make sure that it is well balanced and won't fall into it. If it hits, it could cause a crack.

Yep, but it will be hard to clean the back glass if you so desire.

i do it all the time...just like mskohl said make sure that none of the rocks fall against any of the pains not just the back one

and i dont worry about cleaning the back glass because no one lookls through it and who wants to see the wall behind the tank...its about whats in the tank not behind it
