Live Sand Question

I currently have a 2.5" sand bed in my display tank. It has been there for 10 months and was a yr old when I aquired it. I notice that there is not as much life in it as it used to be, specifically worms. I also would like to increase the depth of it to 4". My questions are - Can I add more live sand at this point in time? Will it mess anything up or would it be beneficial? I'm also thinking of adding a small amount of crud and rubble. Would I benefit from that either?

You should be able to add more sand with no problems directly over your existing bed. I would add some crud in with it, as the amount of life in there would be very beneficial to your sandbed.
