Live Sand

Greetings folks!

I recently move my tank across the city with great success (thanks to the many threads I read through here!). I used fresh sand as per most of the recommendations. I have my old sand sitting in a tub (with some tank water). Is there any value at all in keeping this sand "live"?

I am upgrading to a 220 gallon system in the fall, so I need to reuse the sand "live" or otherwise.

Thanks for your input!

keeping it a tub with a little water and no aeration really wouldn't keep it alive. i would clean the sand, let it dry out and reuse it when your ready. .
personally i would throw it out, not worth the the time or effort to me to clean and store it . but i am lazy :)

Good point and thanks for the quick reply! I can easily fill the tub up with water, drop in an airstone and a powerhead. I have lots of gear, so that is not an issue if I want to keep things living...

The replacement cost of this sand is close to $100 where I live, so I am too cheap to throw it out, lol... And, given I have to buy another bag or two and rinse out, I might as well just do it all at once, so the added effort is minimal...

yes i agree one wash is easier . i would let the sand dry out. is easy to turn dead sand into live sand. so wouldn't stress it
