I love the live sand better but the way that my tank is set up I keep hearing that the only option will be crush corals. any ideas or suggestions? bottom.jpg

I'm not sure why the sand has anything to do with how your tank is set up. If you are considering an under gravel filter because of the holes in the bottom of the tank then yes you should use crushed coral, but I would strongly recommend patching the holes and drilling the tank for an overflow box, under gravel filters tend to lead to higher nitrates in marine systems. In either case I would use dry sand, not live which is more expensive since you are paying for water, is difficult to clean and has little if no benefit.

Live sand is always better for a saltwater system..
Crushed coral is too large and allows "crap" to settle in/below it..

No idea what those holes are for but plug them (or place thin sheet of acrylic over the whole bottom)..

those holes are (were) how they had the filtering system plug in. they had runnin 2 ocean clean filters at the bottom on fresh water tank. I want to make mine salt water.
