liverock "siphon brush"

I have a bit of algae/detritus that is on my live rock in my FOWLR tank. It is on there good enough to not be able to blow it off with a turkey baster, so I want to brush it off. My plan is to get a vacuum brush attachment and affix it to the end of my siphon hose. When i do my next water change I want to gently brush the rock with my "siphon brush" and simultaneously siphon it out to get rid of this stuff. Is this a bad idea? What should I do to the brush attachment to prepare it before putting it into my tank. (I will be using a brand new attachment)

Thanks

I did that when I had my algae/diatom cycle. Just electrical taped a new toothbrush to the siphon. I took off the larger part of the siphon so it was just the small tube. It worked well for me

I don't think so. A good rinse outta do it.

just make sure the bottom of the tube doesn't flop out of the bucket when you're siphoning ;) lol

A better approach then electrical tape (which might contain chemicals in the adhesive that you don't want in your tank) is to take two of those plastic zip strip fasteners and zip the toothbrush to the end of the hose.

I used a round brush that I bought at Petsmart. They came in a package of 3. I cut the brush end off and attached it to the siphon hose. I thought it worked better than a toothbrush because it has bristles on all sides and on the end.

I've done the same thing with the sipon hose coming out of the bucket :) What a mess.
