Drilling holes in the tops would work, just make sure they are small enough so fish cant jump through them.

Damsels get a bad rap but ime yellow tailed damsels are pretty laid back, my clowns are meaner than they are. Yellow tailed damsels are the only ones ive had though so cant say much about others.

I like your scape. Lot's of nooks and crannies. A lot of it will depend on your coral choices though. As is, plenty of swimming room for fish. As for the purple being prone to ich, I think that is a myth IMHO. A fish is a fish is a fish. They may get stressed more easily if they are put in too small of a tank, which may cause them to have an ich outbreak if it's already present in the water, but I can't see them being any more susceptible than any other marine fish. ( there may be scientific evidence on tang immune systems out there in regards to ich, but if so, I haven't seen it. )

sorry guys I meant blue tang , regal tang, "dory" not purple tang!! I really want a blue tang + yellow tang they will live together right?
