Lobophora and dry rock

I've battled Lobophora variegata (aka brown wafer algae) in my aquariums for the past 12 years. It has come and gone to some degree, but I've never been able to get rid of it. I am moving in a few months and will need to completely tear down and rebuild my system. I'm considering letting the rock dry in the hope of finally getting rid of it. Does anyone know if, and for how long, Lobophora can remain viable if completely dried?

Well I am no expert but would probable recommend getting a RODI system if you are not using one, or upgrading to a nicer RODI system, also try getting totally new rock in your system and see if your skimmer can handle your bio-load. When you set up your tank again I would also putting in a refugium and possibly carbon dose your system and if it still comes back I would also get a algae eating blenny there are some cool ones out there like there lawnmower, redspot, starry, and bicolor. These are the changes I would make to your system.

I hope this helps and good luck

I should have added more info about the system. I believe the water quality is good. Ammonia and nitrates are always undetectable. Phosphates are 0 to .01. Water from the RODI is 0 TDS. Chaeto in the fuge grows, but very slowly. I harvest maybe once every three to four months. SPS, clams and Lobophora are all thriving. This is the only algae that's ever given me any serious trouble.

Thanks Loserland. I'll take a look.

I'd add a good lithium chloride bath too. If the algae consumes PO4 straight out of the rock you won't ever test high for it in the water column.
