Lobster

I bought a lobster several months ago. He was very small ( still is ) and a beautiful combination of oranges and purples. He went into my 55 ( not my 185 ) and immediately took up residency in a cave and only ventures out on occasion. I can see him looking into the cave as there is some light on the opposite side. I did no research which is kinda unlike me. But he is only like maybe 2 inches long. What could he hurt I thought.

Fast forward, I have lost several fish. Today I found a piece of a percula. It was being worked over by another crab but I doubt that the crab was the killer. I had thought that perhaps my green brittle star was setting traps, so a week or so ago I moved him to the sump on my 185. So he has a perfect alibi for the percula!

I dont have anything reference in the house on inverts, does anyone know about lobsters? Can this pretty little guy be a stoned cold killer? If not there must be a hitchhiker somewhere deep that is lying in wait.

I've had that exact "Reef Lobster" i my 77 with 6 fish for two years. I have had no problems with him what so ever. He has never paid much attention to the fish. I keep him well fed, so this may be acredited to my success.

i would look into targeted feedings for him to keep him full ... even so, most crabs and lobsters are opportunistic and just can't be trusted.

Mine only comes out during feed and you cant even get a good glimpse of him, just a shadow more then anything, Very Nocturnal so you may never see it.

Thanks for all the help guys. Mine is not as shy as yours Gimplar but he is pretty recessive in the cave most of the time.

I am starting to think that it was my Arc Eye hawkfish who killed the Perc. He has grown so mean he makes a maroon clown look like a choir boy. The lobster surely is the one who chopped the pewrc in half, but I think he likely did it after the deed was done. Anyone want a hawkfish? I think he needs to go, soon.

I had one 2 years ago and it did really well (until heater broke one day). It shied away from light for most of the day, but if I put a piece of krill in the tank, it went absolutely crazy trying to find it. I used to use really long tweezers to give it krill and in its frenzy it would try to crawl up the front glass! It even molted one time, and I saved the carapace because it looked so cool.
