local fish stores

If you do not care for a store then don’t shop at that store.

Same could be turned around to you. Why do you keep coming here rabidly defending a store so many obviously have issues with? If you like it - great. Shop there until your wallet bleeds. Nobody here has said you don't have a right to shop or like PetMart, they've only disagreed with your assessment that it's a good place to shop.

Was not an attack just a question?

I did not single anyone out, simply posted a general warning. In my opinion, this thread has ceased to serve any beneficial purpose. There has been some usefull discussion within it, which is pretty much the only reason it's been allowed to live. However, posts such as the one you made:

Well Mike you proved me right, nothing you say makes any since at all. If its dirty why would you go, are you just that dumb?

skirt the line. This is a somewhat emotional conversation already and being derogatory is what trashes these threads. It will not be tolerated. Keep the discussion at a level that does not resort to name calling.

Consider this a warning to everyone on this thread.

This seems like its against the rules eveyone keeps telling me about something about the user aggreement lol...

I think if everyone would just use a basic philosophy of good debate and attack the issue, not the person, a better "conversation" here would be possible.

Petsmart, Petco, Petland all provide good products and have some great people working at them....but most are not seasoned hobbyists as you find in many of the lfs. That's the difference. I love the Petsmart by my house and buy most of my dog's supplies there and some of my freshwater fish supplies. But, saltwater is a much more involved part of the hobby, and I've yet to find solid info coming from any of the above. For instance, I had a customer yesterday come in who was sold a 55 gallon tank with an Emperor filter, several bags of crushed coral and was told they had the makings of a saltwater tank...all they had to do was put all that in with the salt and in a week they could add fish. Which they did...no one told them to top off with fresh water...no monitoring the water, nothing. I now have their two clowns in my quarantine tank...both covered with ich, they are taking out the crushed gravel and replacing it with sand and are spending lots of time here and with some books reading up on the hobby and testing for a cycle before they come back for their fish. Sorry, but it just isn't right to set someone up that way...or to sacrifice living things in that matter. JMO.

stores have good days and bad days so all i was trying to say i was seeing ppl say good things and then another had a bad time there and that happens

Hawk...you came here asking a question and had nice things to say about our clubs. Shame on everyone else for being so rude!!

You know what...you are so right...some places good one day, and then another day that same store has a problem. That's what happens with living organisms!!!!!

My opinions:

1. Fish and Other Ichthy things(everyone loves them but...) I had something AWFUL in my opionion happen so I keep my mouth shut when everyone praises them...could have been a one day only thing. I just don't go there anymore. Apparently they are very good because of what people say...I just hit the wrong day I guess.

2. Aquatic Visions...they have INCREDIBLE things at a VERY low cost but some days you can tell that they are SO overwhelmed that things don't look healthy..they are wholesalers and have LOTS of things. I would always buy my inverts and liverock from them (the best) but fish...not being taken care of.

3. MiniReef...they are new and have been very nice to me. Everything is healthy, but I've only bought a couple things from them so can't say too much.

4. PetSmart ... good things at decent price...not specialty store and often don't have things that fit your specific need.

Hawk...sorry you came on saying wonderful things about our clubs and then we went crazy with awful comments to each other. I have to say that everyone here helped me from knowing nothing, and now, I have many tanks that are working great. Really...everyone is speaking from passion and not from maliciousness (did I come close to spelling that right?).

I think a lot of this comes from the fact that many members own local stores or have become personal aquaintances with them. I hope you can decipher enough through the fussing and get a chance to see some of our local wonders. IMO: check these guys out around the tampa-ish area:

1. TBS (TampaBay saltwater)
2. Fish and Other Ichthy Things
3. Aquatic Visions

Have fun while you're here. Let us know what you find out!!

Was not an attack just a question? I cant believe your guys are going to keep trashing threads and bringing this board to level that serves no good at all. If you do not care for a store then don’t shop at that store. Pet Mart has been in business for over 20 years now. Must be doing something right if you ask me.
No, it WAS a very thinly veiled attack. That is against the User Agreement that you agreed to when you joined Reef Central. Further violations will result if the loss of your posting privileges.

This thread has been closed. The Staff here is getting very tired of having to come to this forum to stop flaming, fighting and whining about these LFS discussion threads. We have spent more time policing this club forum in the last week and any other 12 club forums. It grows really old.
