I am thinking about redoing my reef and need some large pieces of lace rock, does anyone know where I can get some lace rocks at a decent price? TIA

I found a building supplies place on Santa Rosa Ave. by Freeman that cary California lace rocks and Utah lace rocks, the Utah ones are big and heavy have similar structure to the lace rocks in the pet stores, but they only have big heavy chunk of rocks, I need them smaller, but the Cali ones have better Shapes and colors to them. I got 60lbs for 20 bucks so it is only 30 cents a pound.

You also do bonsai? you gotta check out my Redwood bonsai, it is 3 feet tall and in a giant bonsai pot, this things was created by a Bonsai master from Japan. I did see some nice big pieces that can be use for bonsai. The place is called Johnson Ornamental, 4132 SR ave (707)584-7480

I'm getting into bonsai, I am building a planting display table, with drip system and lights for night viewing. I'll post pics when i finish. I thought about joining the bonsai club. I saw a bonsai show is in Santa Rosa on the 29th and 30th of this month at the fairgrounds in SR. i went last year and they had some 200 and 300 year old trees!!! very nice looking. They do not have a meeting this month but they do next month. It's always easier when you know someone. I'll check out the place thanks for the tip and I'd love to see your bonsai collection. I'll be asking you some questions in the near future. My biggest question is soil mixture. So many different opinions for different types of trees... can you tell me your soil recipe for say maples and your redwood, they should be different. At the next meeting we will have to swap bonsai knowledge. Anyone else in the club into bonsai? I know Craig is an outdoor loving guy....I'll ask him anyone else?

I used to belong to that bonsai club, they are very nice people, you will enjoy it. The soil is pretty easy, just make sure that it is well drained. The only different is soil type for different PH requirement for different type of plants. Azelea like Acidic soil so you want to add peat moss, fir bark, and perlite. Pine and junipers like coarse well drain soil so I use pumice, small fir bark, and some top soil, with a little sand. As for trimming their is a trimming technique for each plant type and a schedule, and then their is a schedule for fertilizing ... once you get all that then you are fine ... lol

yeah i can't find fur bark anywhere...only redwood bark that is small. Where do you get fur bark or do you think redwood will work? I don't think redwood will absorb the water.....

nope don't use red wood, only fir bark. You can get them at any local building supplies places, one place in windsor off of old red/arata lane has it
