This is the most recent water tests from the water company here. On the chart I am in the MPW area. I tested my tap water for PO the other day and it gave me a light brown reading that isn't even on the results. I am calling them now to ask what the reading is on it. I am very strapped for cash right now and can't afford an RO/DI filtration system, but the algae in my tank is just steady. It isn't too bad and it feeds the cleanup crew, but it is on every rock and looks funky.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

If you can't afford a RO/DI unit right now, you can use distilled water from the store. The other option would be to buy RO/DI water from your LFS. The one thing that you will see is that after
buying the water from the store or LFS is that after about 6 water changes, you have just paid for the RO/DI unit.

A Ocean Reef +1 from the TheFilterGuys is only $199.00

Good Luck

I agree, your first priority should be an rodi unit. Until you buy an rodi unit, it may be safer to go without water changes, then take the chance of adding metals (copper) into your system.

Without having a DI filter, I dont think that your going to get 0.0 TDS. Thats what your looking for.

I any case, I would get yourself a portable TDS meter like the COM-100. Its only $50.00 but you can use it anywhere. I have a dual inline TDS meter on my RO/DI system, but I still check the final TDs with the COM-100.

From Time to Time I even go into my LFS & test his water just for the hell of it.

Dang. I have a milwaukee sm 802 and I just checked the hose and faucet. My faucet gets 50 PPM and the hose outside that has the filter on it reads 100. I am baffled. It should be roughly the other way around.

Even though the hose has a filter of some kind. The measurement you are taking includes a larger number of water ingredients that the filter may not take out. Perhaps the fact that the kitchen faucet gets used more often may have something to do with possible copper from pipes disolving in the water which the filter may not remove.

I used to live down there - and you had/have two options: Mt. P allows private citizens to drive up to one of the RO stations and fill up with RO water for free - see this link: Mt. P RO stations

OR you could go to Tideline Aquatics in Hanahan and buy premixed saltwater or RO water.

I am actually headed to Tideline now to buy a replacement bulb for my other tank. I looked online for the RO stations earlier and it acted like it had no clue what it was on their website. Thanks a ton and sorry you left us here in SC =( =)

and I will be doing the fill up for free =) woo hooo! not too far away either. Thanks a ton for the heads up Kevin!
