Locked out of controller

First let me apologize as I'm not good with networking and really don't know the lingo or understand it.

I have been running Apex Fusion with no problems.

I have my router connected to an Apple AirPort Extreme. Then, I have a second AirPort Extreme which I use as a wireless extender. The apex and also my Reeflink are plugged directly into it with Ethernet cables.

I had a weird crash on Christmas Day when I was trying to add my new Xbox one to the network. It said I lost the "DNS server" or something?

I spent time on the phone with Comcast and after they fixed things on their end, I had to factory reset both airports. Everything is working fine, including my Reeflink which is plugged into the same airport wireless extender as the apex.

The apex however will not connect. The controller is working perfectly and I still have manual control but I cannot log on to fusion.

When I try to connect it first starts by saying that it needs to be updated to the current version. When I attempt to do that it says it cannot unlock the controller.

Any ideas? Thanks kindly.

First off, what ever you do, do not update the Apex over wireless. You can only do updates through a wired network connection where your computer and Apex are plugged into the same switch. That said, have you tried to connect to your Apex through the native web interface (not Fusion) via it's IP address while you are on your home network? If so, can you connect? Is your Apex setup DHCP or static IP? You can verify if it's getting an IP address by going into your display and looking for Network under settings.

I did plug one Ethernet cable from my iMac into the AirPort Extreme I am using as the wireless extender. The apex was also plugged into this and it still would not connect. This is however setup as an extender so all the data it is sending and receiving is coming wirelessly from another AirPort Extreme which is plugged into the modem.

Ok, so this is stupid but its now working. I went into the net menu on the display to copy down the ip address and gateway and all of that. At the bottom I saw "reset" which I had not noticed or tired before. I selected it and BAM, got a text message letting me know its back online.

Next question, it says I must DISABLE WIFI before doing the controller update. The way everything is setup is the modem and router are upstairs. The second router used as a wireless extender is downstairs with the tank and the Apex is plugged directly into it. I can plug my iMac also directly into the router used as the wireless extender but if I disable wifi I will lose my connection to the internet. Is that a problem?

Thanks kindly

You will need to setup a static IP address on the Apex and one in the same range on your Mac with a matching subnet to update it with a direct connection. Do not do any updates via wireless anything. My suggestion is to get a small hub or switch to plug the Apex and your Mac into when doing updates or a long network cable that you can plug into your Apex from upstairs. I know that sounds like a pain but updates are not something that need to be done often.
