Lol condoms safe in tank ?

XD I know this sounds stupid, but are they? I was thinking I could make a pretty good fake BTA out of like green or red condoms XD I just dont want to buy a real one, I dunno if my tank counts as "mature" it's been running for 5-6 years but we recently bought it and had to pretty much do a 100% water change. ( couldn't save the water) I have some clown fish in there, and my current fake anemone looks way too fake and just too corny for my tank xD. So any ideas on the whole condom thing? Are they even food grade? XD
I just dont want a poor anem. To die at my hands over a immature tank, so a fake one will do for now
 
You could try to find some military issue condoms. Don't know weree to buy but they are found in a Parachute survival pack. They are non-lubricated and can hold a liter of water. You can also just buy non lubed ones.

They have some decent fake anemones on eBay, but you have to search for them to find the realistic ones. I don't think it would be any cheaper to try to make one from condoms, because you have to find and purchase the exact right condom and then try to make it yourself. I would also be worried that someone would be able to tell that it is an anemone condom contraption. Which could lead to so awkward, albeit comical conversations
 
i would just NOT try this...the latex may degrade after a while and leach junk..

just dont do it.. buy a real nem or deal with junk fake ones..
 
I remember back in when i was in high school i always went into the store at the mall "spencers" they had super tiny condoms in there that would make for better tentacles then the real condoms.... why am i encouraging this!! lol
 
Thanks for all the replies xD I fonud someone who made a mini fish ecosystem out of a condom? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V9gIDr5JAas ( though that's a pretty sad life for those fish) I won't try the condom nem. in my main tank, maybe in my QT, heck, if I even try it at all. I'll look on eBay too for some better looking fake ones, but the last one I got said it was a squishy silicone, and I could probably stab someone with the tentacles xD I also got a fake nem. From Walmart, and my maroon is absolutely terrified of it, but I'll see what I can do.

I wondered where my first serious girlfriend sourced those tiny hobbit condoms. Horrible little things. lol

This would look hilarious, and I think you should do it, just so I can see a clown fish happily swimming among the gently wafting condoms. Make sure to buy reservoir tips, so it can be a bubble tip anemone. I wouldn't run it long term though.

I think what you are thinking of is finger cots. They are not intended for your junk, just your fingers. :)

They will not be lubricated either. They do come in multiple colours, just be careful they are not coated (E.g. anti-static).

Nah, I've used the finger condoms before, I'm familiar with those. These were a bit bigger than those, but much smaller than normal ones...I'm way over sharing. I apologize. lol

Yeah, I wouldn't put a fish in a condom to live it's whole life, but he put plants for Oxygen, if that counts? It's a cool concept, but cruel in my opinion due to being in less than a gallon of water for the fishes whole life.

I was just pointing that out as a " if a fish can apparently live in one, maybe it would be safe to put one in the tank?" That kind of thing ^^;
 
Well now I really am gonna have to do it. I will source materials and keep everyone updated. I have quite a bit of free time currently, and building a condom anemone sounds very amusing.
 
Same, I bought the condoms earlier XD I'm using green and yellow, I don't think there were enough red in the boxes XD I'll post a pic once mine is complete lol
 
I'm not too sure xD I think just air would make them look more like bubble tip nems. I was thinking, maybe I could just anchor it to a piece of live rock with rubber bands, coral glue or something xD so it wouldn't float away and all, maybe fill each tip with water? But I think it would go bad or something after a while in a condom .___. I'll just see what I can work with xD
