Long tentacle duncan?

I stopped by a LFS in Peoria, IL today while visiting for a wedding and noticed a duncan in their display tank. However, this duncan was very different in the fact that the tentacles were very long and thin. They were almost 5 inches long and about the width of think fishing line. Any idea what caused the extended tentacles? The owner said it was a standard duncan but was thriving with proper flow and light. I was just curious if anyone else has seen something like that.

Aquarium Obsessions was the LFS.
Very nice selection of LPS and softies, almost all from their private farm!

Here is my Duncan colony and its got pretty long tentacles. Each head is well over 2" in diameter probably close to 2 1/2"

I would say the opposite of what he said and that they were starved for both food and light. Mine is very healthy.

I don't think so. I have a Duncan just like he describes with extremely long tentacles on some heads. The heads I feed the most have the longest ones. It is sprouting new heads like dandelions so I know it isn't starving and the light is around 150 PAR.

I had one with huge heads and long tentacles that I fed well. I always thought it was odd since I never saw one like it at my LFSs

I feed all of the heads on my Duncans both the colony and he double head frag, All of mine have over 1" tentacles and the largest heads are close to 2 1/2" in diameter. I've never seen any Duncan with 5" tentacles, I would love to see a picture because you would have at about a 12" diameter head. Sorry but call me skeptical

Mine aren't 5" but the longest ones are are about 3" and much larger than the head they are connected to.

I think it's just the particular colony. I have two Duncan's right next to each other. One has long tents and one has short tents. Even the heads I fragged from them retain that quality in other peoples tanks so I do believe that it's the particular coral that dictates tent length.
