long tentacle plate coral closing up from lights

I can't figure out why my plate coral keeps closing up when the lights turn on. When they're off he's some what inflated with about half his tentacles out, but once the light turns on he deflates until down to his skeleton and pulls in most of his tentacles. Any one ever have this happen to them?

I have one 250W metal halide bulb and four T5's. The coral sits on the sand bed, down 18inches with the lights above 4inches more. I also have a short tentacle plate coral who is loving life and is under the same amount of light.

How big is your tank? Have you tried feeding it lately?
It sounds like it might be getting too much light. Try moving it someplace else for awhile and see what happens. (for at least a week) It doesn't have to be in the shadows, just a place where the lighting is not as intense. GL.

It's a 46 gallon. It won't take any food, it just holds it for a bit then lets it go. I'll trying moving him over. Thanks
