Longest SPS without crash

What is the longest any of you have run an SPS dominated tank without a crash?

I recently sold my 58 due to a tiring 2 year battle with bryopsis. I finally "defeated" it, but was so worn down, I sold it anyway. Of course, like a true addict, I pulled an old stand and filter out of the garage and had my 20h topoff tank running as a display tank within 24 hours. I kept three frags, as well as my 44 Cree led homemade light (sold my old VHO/mh combo). Before I knew it, I bought a 50# box of Marco rocks, and a 40br from Petco (It WAS on sale, after all).

While doing more research on SPS tanks and looking for ideas for the next one, I've realized that nearly all the build threads end up with an epic crash (STN, RTN, AEFW, etc).

So, how many out there have had reasonably long term success? Is it worth starting over, or are we proving the definition of insanity?

Anyone with SPS colonies 5+ or 10+ years old?

I was elated when I sold my 58, then excited about starting up a 40br, but now I'm kind of unsure if I want to do it. I know I can do LPS, but SPS is what I want.

Few of my colonies are 7/8 years old that came from my fathers tank years ago. But there are many people on this forum who have had colonies for 10 +years that are over a ft in diameter check out some of the tank of the months if you want eye candy.

I think the main reason people have tank crashes isnt because of the corals cant handle it but more of negligence to the their system over the years, but with technology increasing as it is along with automation tanks are lasting alot longer with out manual labor. Not to mention corals simply need ample space to grow and this requires people to upgrade every few years.
