Longfined clownfish. Thoughts??

Thinking about purchasing a pair from sustainable aquatics but the price is so high. Almost 400 dollars for a pair. Would anyone else who loves clownfish make the decision to put that much money down on them?

Any opinion or thoughts would be appreciated. :bounce1:

I bought 2 before Christmas. They were running a sale on medium single Long Fins for $90 each. They weren't a bonded pair, but are now. Really pretty fish. If you call and ask to speak to the SA side they might match the Dec/Jan price or give you a nice discount. They are good people.

My LFS had one of the first couple to hit the market at a price tag of 1K for the bonded pair.

IMO they are a hideous freak of nature and certainly something that should not have been tried.

I suppose they wouldn't look bad if they had full long fins, but every pair I've seen look like they have been fighting and their fins look all ripped and tattered, but I think that's how they grow also.

Those longfin clowns absolutely do not appeal to me at all, saw a pair in my LFS and honestly would not want them for free. Of course this is just my opinion, like post above said, it is up to you to figure out if worth it .

It makes me cringe, personally. Lots of examples of freshwater abominations: jellybean parrots, glowing tetras, celestial eye goldfish, etc.

my LFS just had a pair for 600 bucks.... It really is your preference, wasn't my cup of tea specially for that price but if you like them then go for it. 400 for a pair of them seems like an ok deal for a pair based off of others I have seen.... still a lot though :)

Yeah, I don't find them attractive at all either.
You would have to pay me to take them.

I personally don't get them but if you do and you can afford them then enjoy. The best thing about them is the profit will likely go into breeding something else which is more common but natural.
at the end of the day add things you enjoy. I'm happy with a normal pair of clowns.

I don't get why they thought it was a good idea to design a fish that isn't the greatest swimmer naturally, lives in a high flow environment, and create long fins. I guess it's an easy gene to manipulate.

I agree with you. Not my cup of tea either, but it's up to the OP to decide since they will be in his tank and not mine. Lol!

I want to see a adult pair to decide whether I like or not. But I paid 600 for a pair of frostbite Clownfish so it's not uncommon to pay a penny

Kinda cool, but not my cup o' tea  The purists are so nauseating, this is a hobby at the end of the day (*ahem* those are for fun). I personally prefer a good looking pair of true perculas, but hey, if you want a pair of G2 ultra thawed, solar powered, victorian era, super bubble gum gorilla nipple clowns, more power to you

I'll take two solar powered bubble gum gorilla nipple clowns thank you.

Sustainable does have a retail store that sales to the public. They currently have a sale on Longfin Clowns for $90 each.
