Longnose Hawkfish gone missing

invertigator

I have had him for s few months. He was healthy and fat yesterday and today he is gone. Has anyone had similar experience? Are they known to be jumpers, or RBTA perchers? I've looked behind the tank and all seems clear. Trying to find a small enough mirror to look inside the overflows.

Hmmm... my Hawkfish does cruise the surface around the tank sometimes. I suppose it's possible he either jumped or went into the overflow. And of course they do perch, so if it decided to hang on top of the RBTA... well, you are the invertigator. You should find some evidence in a day or so.

Well guys I found him at the bottom of my overflow alive and well!!! Any ideas on how I might get him out? My net is not long enough and it is a pretty small space.

Just off the top of my head, grab a wire coat hanger and make an extension for your net, assuming the net will fit down the overflow. Otherwise, a coat hanger with a sandwich bag on the end. You may get lucky and snag him.

Here's the democratic way of getting fish out of the overflows.

Get some fishnet stockings or bridal veil material(I'm pretty sure u have some at home from your days in the hialeah police dept LMAO) and shove it packed tightly into the overflow- the fish will get entangled like a dolphin in a tuna net and pull the whole thing out inlucing the fish.
