longspine cardinls

I have been looking for something other then the normal chromis that might make a shoal in my 75g and was thinking that a group of longspine cardinals would be cool. my question is what is their care like? I usually feed frozen mysis, but plan to try making my own food soon, will this be okay? are they aggressive swimmers? will strong currents bother them? what would be a good sized group, I was thinking 5-7. I have heard they are bad shippers, is this true? are they hard to keep alive once they are introduced into the tank?

I have had 5 for over a year now. Once they are here and eating, you are set. Mine all eat Spectrum pellets. As for swimmers, they arent too active. Usually staying in one area not moving too much. the longer they are in the aquarium, the more attractive they get. They get more blue and red once they are all settled in. one of my favorites.

I have them as well. They are gorgeous and actually do shoal (what many call school) BUT they are difficult shippers. To get my grouping of seven required addition of 12. I do recommend them highly subject to that one condition.

thanks, I think I have my shoalers! will they be bothered by high flow? also, will they co-inhabit with a single or a pair of kauderns cardinals?

how bothered are they by aggression and fast swimmers?

Woah! Your in 7th grade! Oh man, now theres a reefer younger than me. I'm in 8th.

Anyway, if your talking about this cardinal:

I think they would be happy if there was an area of low flow they could hang out in, when I had bangaiis, they were blown away by my flow, so I think they would be bothered a little by the flow, but I have never had them so I don't know.

On the link, it says they need peaceful tank mates, so it may be bothered by fast swimmers, but my bangaii's were never bothered by my midas or othe fast fish, so I don't think so. As long as you have enough swimming space.

I think that other cardinals are aggressive towards eachother so I would watch out for the two. Unless you have a big tank.

Good luck
