Isnt all the LR from these vendors drop shipped from the same place? I have seen post about PA having bad rock as well. Its a gamble unless you picked it out yourself.

PS. MD did offer a refund?

If you search the hills for the cheapest LR, I would not be upset when you recieve just ok LR. IF you paid $11 a lb and got that that rock I would say that you have every right to be mad. I think it looks great for the money...

hey, i just got my nano LR today from MD and here is a pick

well, I will agree that MD didnt pack the rock in a moisture rich enviroment, but there was very little smell. (I payed the extra 12 bucks for overnight shipping). There wasnt and interresting charasmatic microlife, but i did find a bivalve about the size of a dime that was still living. I rinsed my rock in about 1.5 gallons of salt water, swished it around, did some light brishing with a toothbruch,and pciked off loose parts, and the rinse water was quite muddy. Now it is in my curing bucket. Jay, Im sorry if your experience wasnt the best, but my rock was fine so I guess it depends on their shipments. I normally dont support "big box" fish places, but i will defend them a bit. If you want really quality LR, then a quality LFS is where you want to go. My old store in Hopewell VA had amazing liverock with coral surviving on it.

I think you got typical figi rock. Don't worry about the lack of coraline. Some of my rock was completly grey/white when I bought it, but it colored up quickly. I bought all mine from various LFS because I wanted to see what I was getting.

update: I preped my holding bucket a few days ago by starting my bio-cycling by adding old tank water (stuff I tank out of my tank during water changes), adding some old bioballs, and old filter media. (you can see from the picture above) and now my ammonia readings have nearly become 0 again after spiking at 1mg/L this afternoon. my nitrites are astronomical but it looks like curing time for the rock is significantly reduced. I will still test constantly and wait for it to be comepletely cured before I use it but I wanted to ''cough... brag'' and approve of MD's Rock, or atleast my batch. Ammonia cycled after the first day is great!

Jay, how's your rock looking now that you have had it for a while?
I just filled up a 26cube with some rock that had been in a trash can for over a year in the dark and it still has stuff on it, no coralin algae but I'm confident it will return. Post some progress pics of your rock. Let us know.

btw lr does ingeneral suck and never looks like hte pic ( i know that now) but TBS is the best

Figi rock from just about anybody does not look great when you first get it. It just takes time to recover. You should expect recovery of some nice purple coraline algea within a few weeks after curing. I have seen various little critters come out from the rock for the first time after months in the aquarium. Remember, this is a hobby that requires a lot of patience!
