what is it that keeps you from getting a blue or powder blue tang? Is it because they may eat the Aiptasia? If that is what you meant then I hope you know that the Aiptasia is a bad thing. If you know this them I am sorry, I just was not sure what you meant. Oh, and Welcome to CVRC!

No problem . . .

I'm not aware that they eat pest anenome (sp?) but I've been told they eat Anthelia (sp?); i.e, waving hand coral.

Those are awsome fish! I had one that only lasted about a month. My foxface didn't like him. I think he would have done well if not harassed all the time.

Good luck!

Shes a good healthy specimen, this is Jokers dream fish and we have built his entire system around being able to keep this one fish above all others.

BTW any tang can become a coral eater if it's not fed algae regularly. Of course some can destroy a reef tank faster than others like a certain fish I have that I wont talk about.

I've heard they like to eat Anthelia (sp?).

Keeps me from getting a Blue or Powder Blue Tang.

I doubt a Powder Blue will eat Anthellia, It is the Regal Tang that is dangerous IMO. The problem with Powder Blue's is that they seem to be very++++ prone to ich. Almost everyone I know who has had one lost it to ich or a lack of eating, or both.

BTW, Copperbanded Butterflies will eat apatasias, but they also nip at corals. Some Peppermint shrimp will also eat small apatasia. However, neither of these will eat many apatasias if better foods are readily available.

Powder blues are very tough fish to keep and not something I
would recommend for many people. They can be quite aggressive also.

I hope it does well for you joker. They are truly a beautiful fish.

She's a beauty. I hope she does well.

Unfortunately tangs don't eat aiptasia but like Ron said they may nibble corals. My sailfin goes through phases of zoa nipping :rolleye1:

Would you come over and explain that to my Copperbanded. Mine doesn't seem to understand that is what it's supposed to be eating.

Maybe this is why it is not eating the apatasias.

I've started cutting back on the food I'm feeding but no luck yet. I may go to just feeding some nori so my percs have something to eat. That way my orchic dottieback and the copperbanded will have to go after their selected prey. Lord knows those two will still have plenty to eat. Just worried about the percs. I don't wanna loose them or the starfish.

That is a gorgeous fish! I lost mine to ich! I now have a Red Sea Sailfin....approx. 3.5 inches. It nips my anthelia, kenya tree and any thing new put into the tank! Nosey I guess! I put new items nooked into areas smaller than he is to give them a chance! He has a great personality. He follows my magnifying glass all over my aquarium! He always wants me to look at him! He's so large now he takes up the entire magnified area. I have to be quick to check out other areas of my tank!
