how are regals with softies and LPS?

Its a hit and miss but most of them will leave them alone. There is a huge Regal Angel thread you can read. I forgot the link. Just do a search for it. Get the Red Sea Regal Angels and not the Bali or Indonesia ones. People have success with the Red Seas but no one (very few) kept the non Red Sea Regal alive more than a few months.

red sea ones are more beautiful right? i had the chance to get one i just wasnt sure... now im regretting it.

yea im lookin for a 2-4" red sea. I want my beautiful fish to thrive in my tank. I got a crap load of wild spongues growing on my rocks and very few fish in my tank.

Most ive seen in stores are gettin up there in price for the RS species.

i really doubt you guys will ever find a hobbyist selling a reefsafe/eating redsea regal.

they're priceless!!

it took me a few months to get my regal to take pellets and i got her when she was about 2in. My absolute favorite fish...not just because of the way she looks but the amount of time and effort i put into keeping her healthy.

can someone post a picture of a Red Sea Regal compared to the Indonesian Regal?

Red Sea belly is more colorful rather than blue/gray.

Red Sea:

Bali or Indonesia (Notice the grayish belly color)

John, you regal really is beautiful. Your avatar is what opened my eyes and made me realize i want one!

My tank has 2 blasto colonies and a leather in it thats it. Its begging for a beautiful fish.

I will just take my time till i find a great specimen that is healthy and eating. Im off to read the regal thread. thanks for all the input everyone.

red sea regals have a better survival record. This is probably a combo of red sea fish as a generality being a bit "tougher" and secondarily that the collection habits are probably better.

Most blue/grey chested regals will die in captivity.

Ugh, I hate my Red Sea Regal. It won't eat anything besides polyps. It's been alive for 3 months, but it's thinning out. I tried to rescue it as when I bought it, it was looking really bad and was floating sideways. Now it's extremely healthy, but it terrorizes my softies and LPS. It's a large regal, about 7 inches. It's a beautiful fish; it's just really annoying that it ate my true PPE haha. Be careful which one you buy.

thanks sirlight,

currently my regal is w/sps, a brain, 2 scoly's, and some rics.

i havent seen it pick at anything. i think the trick is to get it as small as possible.

you are a strange one to figure out SirLight.

you post and repost selling off all your livestock and fish.
then you post and repost selling off your nice system at a loss.

and now you are seeking a high end specialty fish with a difficult track record for captivity.

what gives?

Ive made the deicision to keep my stuff since i have had zero offers and my future plans for moving have been killed by dead beats. Look at how many people viewed my FS thread and i had all of about 1 response. I dont feel like selling my tank for DIRT cheap when i payed top dollar not even 6 months ago. I sold most of my corals and had a fish or two die due to equipment, not my inabilities to keep livestock. Yes my SPS died due to being in a holding tank, a LFS jerking me off in getting my lighting setup, causing a clam to die and take all the sps with it. All my fish are just fine thank you.

I just so happened to change my mind. Is that alright ?

perfectly fine to change your mind, just don't sound so desperate and innudate the board with your sales threads over 2 months and then don't follow through with those that committed to buy your stuff. It wastes your time and ours.

good luck with your re-made setup and fish.

I was sorry to see your desperation and selling your nice system for less than it was worth.
glad to see you have decided to stay in the hobby.
Hopefull that I and others here on RC can continue to benefit from your knowledge and experiences.

Seaside in Huntington Beach has 2 as of yesterday. Both are nice and on the small medium side. Just growing out of the juvenile stage. Red Sea yellow belly type. I didn't ask the price. They looked alert but didn't have time to see them feed. Generally the prices on fish are decent there.

sirlight, did you end up getting one?
i jsut picked up another from the LFS that i always go to.
great looking and eating mysis.
