Lookin for Live Rock

A friend is looking for about 40 Lbs of live rock to start up a 35 hex reef tank
Let me know if anyone has any rock they are lookin to sell

Thanks he is looking to save som $$$ most store want $9 lb and most people sellin it want about $2-$3 Lb
so if someone is breakin down a tank that would be great

I would look into doing macro rocks (they are pre-dried with no hitch-hikers but still needs to be cured) or you can try e-bay it depends if he/she wants fiji or haitian etc. but the prices are good just make sure to check feedback.

i used 50lbs marco rocks in my tank and about 30lbs of live rock and i can't tell the difference between the pieces anymore. i dont think i would ever start a tank with all live rock at the prices they want for it.

Aqua Hut doesn't charge $9/lb...probably not 2-3 though either, somewhere in between i think 5-6 they charge...so if you wanted you could try there for some

I saw rock for $4 at PW, that may be a 50lb break price?

When I started my 90 gal i bought 30 pounds on Ebay and I wasnt that happy with the shapes of the rock- I also bought 50 pounds online from marine depot and I was very happy with it- no hitch hikers and great shapes for stacking a reef. The other 30 pounds were from pet stores- This way I was able to hand pick. You should cure all the rock first- but thats not an issue with a new tank- plus its a good way to break in the skimmer.

Not to start a controversy or anything, but rather to continue an old one , I never had rock as cool as the caribbean rock I got from Florida. I did have to deal with mantis, but the rock was awesome! I am still debating whether to get an order for some now that I need a bit more. Criticisms include the mantis shrimp that are likely, and the less than porous nature of the rock. Check out: http://floridaliverock.com/, and believe the pics. You see great stuff and critters coming out of the rocks for a while after you get it going too. Right now, I believe they have "base" rock that is lightly coralline encrusted going for 1.99 a pound, plus shipping. While the "deco" is cool, the premium coralline is the best deal imo. When I got mine in 2000, I picked it up at MacArthur.

Dale is a stand up guy and his rock is very nice. I will second Bonehs recomendation. I called him on a Sunday to leave a message and he called back a few hours later. Pretty cool customer service!

I have over 500 Lbs. live rocks (mostly Tonga & Soloman Island) in the 270 gallon sump of my home tanks at Great Neck. They have been there for 10 years in average, some are as old as 20 years.

I am thinking to sell some of them to make space for refugium, I am asking $5.- a pound with a minimum of 100 Lbs.

I will also possibly donate some to the next LIRA monthly meetings. Some members paid $5.- for a 20 Lbs. beatiful piece in last meeting, however, I am not sure whether I will allow people to pick and choose from my sumps and tanks in office.
