Looking for a hardy orange reef-safe fish

I have been trying to add an orange fish to my tank for a while. I have a number of clowns that have turned too dark, a neon dottyback that hides all of the time and a dismal record with anthias.

Any suggestions?

Definitely look into the flasher/fairy wrasses!

Wrasses are a good suggestion, but the dottyback doesn't take kindly to them.

Should be fine in a 200+ gallon tank...assuming that's the tank you're talking about.

I wish it was...

I have had most of my fish for several years and every newcomer makes an enemy fast.

For example, I recently added 3 four stripe damsels and my cardinal tormented them.

we have a harlequin tuskfish that is beautiful. He's really active and fun to watch. He's often at the surface swimming with his fin out of the water like a shark. It makes me grin.

I don't know if he's compatible with what you've got, but may be an option.

hmmm..ok, how about hawkfish (though they're more red than orange).

Flame angle if you're willing to take all of the nipping.

Sounds like your other fish are going to limit your choices way more than your color requirement

All great suggestions...

Had a flame angel -- destroyed frog-spawn and montipora and had to be removed.

Flame hawk -- one of my favorite fish. Had one for 3 1/2 years. Ate all of my shrimp and descimiated tiny snail population. Would consider again if not for commitment to shrimp since my old one passed.

Task -- very interested, beautful fish. Conderned about snail population, shrimp and school of green chroms.

Keep up the ideas!

Which anthias have you been unsuccessful with? Perhaps you just had more difficult species.
