looking for a high flow submersible pump

I've been using a 3200gph pond pump for the past 2 years. It's starting to wear out and now I'm ready to spend the money on a better, new pump.

I need a submersible, saltwater (some pond pumps don't do well in saltwater) that can move at least 2000gph, and more like 2500-3500gph would be better. The best I've seen so far is a Danner Mag Drive 24. But it loses almost 600gph at 5" of head and uses 265 watts! I'd do the Mag 36, but it's discontinued! Anybody have any recommendations? I already have a Reeflo on my CL system, but I don't have room for another external pump. Sometimes an 8" long sump/refugium can get in the way... even in a stand that is 10+ foot long! :spin2:
 
ATB flowstars come in 1500, 1800, 3200 and 4200.

If you don't have long runs to make you can bump up the plumbing size by .25" (3/4 to 1" for example) to get even more flow out of it. Fantastic pumps.
 
What pump are you using? I am looking for a high flow pump too, I've looking at the Laguna pumps (pond pumps) and the water blasters.
 
I believe it's a Jebao 3200. I can't find one on the internet, but it is 2 years old. The bushings are wearing out and the impeller can move forward just enough to touch the plastic housing and cause it to bind up. But in taking it apart the first time, I found the magnet and the inside case were both fairly rusty and thought that was the problem was at first. I cleaned it up and it ran fine for 2 hours. When it locked up again I realized it was the impeller and the case. But the rust issue makes me want to use a pump that the manufacturer approves for use in saltwater.

Yup! The 180g has a CL with a 2400gph Reeflo and the 120g sump/refugium/frag tank feeds the 180g DT, the 70g nem tank and the chiller which feeds back into the DT. I have to dial back the 3200gph pump about 20%, so a 2400gph would work if it doesn't have too much head loss. I'm just a bit leary of pond pumps in saltwater seeing how this one rusted. I wish Mag Drive still made their 3600gph.

At a cool $600 for the 3200gph pump, I don't expect to lose over 1000gph at only a 5' head. $600 is a bit steep for a pump, at least out of my wallet! But I really appreciate the lead. :beer:

Anybody else got any suggestions? Please... :fish2:

I am also 100% sold on the ATB's. Not sure if theres a better pump out there right now for the money!
 
GrampaDon, thanks for the lead. A friend in our local club suggested a Water Blaster pump and I had not checked it out yet because I hadn't ever heard of it. I used your link and it looks like a pretty good pump and a pretty good price.
