Looking for a holding tank for LR

gem

Totally over it
I am preparing ahead of time to set up the 110 gal. I'm looking for an old scratched up acrylic or glass tank about 55 or 60 gal. Or a small stock tank someone's not currently using. I'd prefer to borrow one, but I would need it for a few months at least. (hoping for less than that, but likely at least till after the first of the year.)

If not borrow, than I can buy it in a few weeks for a reasonable price.
I'd like to get a tank going for LR now, so I can buy a little at a time.

At HD they have 55 gal rubbermade containers for like 18 dollars and they are about the size of a 55 gal tank.

It should work perfect for live rock, plus they are good to have in a emergency.

I put my whole 55 reef in one and kept it there for a week, fish corals and all.

I do have tanks you could borrow to if you want to go that route.

My concern with rubbermaid is that the sides give. I'm currently using an 18 gal rubbermaid tub as a refugium. Are the larger ones thicker? I'll have to go take a look tomorrow. thanks for the idea Chris.

Yeah....I saw that she was trying to sell it at one time. I think I'm going to take Chris' advice and check out those rubbermaid tubs tomorrow.

No, my 55 gallon tank sold, and the glass one is going to my daughter's school. I have a smaller holding tank, but I don't think it'll be big enough

yeah i would go with teh rubber maids, hey ginger that great your getting a 110! do you already have it or looking for one?

Brian Prestwood just delivered the tank about 15 minutes ago. It's in the garage. Where it will be for a while. I pretty much need everything for it. Stand, lights, rock, skimmer...etc...etc...

Have possibles on some stuff in the works.

But, due to the fact that I don't have and will never have all the money at one time to set this up, I need to spread expenses out over a couple months. Which is why I'm going to start a LR tank and start collecting now. :D

Good idea about the rock. Not having the funds is less than desirable, but it does force you to be patient and take it slow. No matter how slow we hope to see a build thread.
Also just curious, did Steve drill it or did you decide different?
Well, keep us posted.

Ginger, if I were you I'd buy a Rubbermaid Brute trashcan. They are a little more expensive, but I am always using mine for reefing stuff. A 44 gallon Brute is around $40, but will last you a lifetime and its perfect for storing RO or mixing saltwater. I have a 44 gallon Brute that I always keep saltwater in for water changes.

Alternatively, see if someone has a 50 gallon barrel they don't want. I overheard Karen the Librarian state she had one she didn't want. They usually sell for $20. I cooked about 200 pounds of rock in my 50 gallon barrel for almost 6 months.

hey ginger for what its worth, the used forum saved me 100s in my build. if you pm me i can tell you what i paid for everything and what it was worth, it is very uplifting knowing that an awesome tank can be built on a budget. if you like seeing things come together at once buy and dont setup. that is wha i did, its fun to build at one time.
