As the subject line says, I'm looking for a pair of captive bred or raised black saddlebacks (A. Polymnus). I am looking to add a pair of them and also a pair of b/w occellaris to my 120 gal reef at the same time. Initially, i was going to add a small group of each, but a few people have suggested just a pr of each should hopefully work better. I have 2 rbta's at opposite ends of the tank and only have a large marine betta in there now. The only other thing i might add is possibly a sebae anemone and then a few other fish down the road. Does anyone know where i might be able to buy b/w A Polymnus, please??? Any good private breeders or online stores, etc.?

I want to add both pairs at the exact same time, so there aren't any predetermined territories. would adding a sebae (H crispa) throw off the "symmetry"?

Thanks!

Andy

I'm afraid you are out of luck. I don't think there are any CB black polymus. Not in this country anyway. You can find brown ones but no one commercial or private has been able to get a pair of blacks to breed. I think I saw some pics of a farm in Hong Kong or somewhere that looked like they had some, but they are not being brought over here.

Not that I am totally against having two pairs of clowns in a tank, but black polymnus are a little too mean to be a good candidate for that.

Are the black polymnus really supposed to be aggressive? I had read that they are not very aggressive, but that the red saddles are. I know Premium Aquatics is getting a shipment from ORA on Friday with cb b/w occellaris and also what they are calling "white tip clowns" which are hybrids of sebae and polymnus. Sounds interesting.

The Polymnus clowns can be pretty aggressive when they get full sized. I had a pair of blacks and they were definately the bosses of the tank. Also, the Red saddles are probably not polymnus clowns but A. Ephippium clowns, which is very different fish more akin to the Tomato clowns. I've seen those sebae and polymnus hybrides and they are really neat looking.

I have a pair of these guys blk saddle backs and they are the most passive fish in my tank. Not aggressive at all. Not sure where my lfs got these guys but they were only 90 for the pair. Pics in gall.
